E' uscito Songbird un player / jukebox multimediale open source, basato su Firefox, VLC e SQLite che entrerà in concorrenza con iTunes, RealOne e Windows Media Player.
Oltre ad organizzare la vostra libreria musicale e a permettervi (in futuro) di acquistare brani legalmente da altri negozi alternativi ad iTunes Music Store, la possibilità offerta già da questa versione (pur con qualche baco) di abbonarsi ai podcast lo potrebbe rendere la chiave di volta del fenomeno.
Manca infatti uno strumento integrato e aperto (esluso iTunes quindi) che si occupi della gestione dei podcast dall'abbonamento alla sincronizzazione sul player mp3 e che renda davvero facile l'ascolto delle trasmissioni in mp3.
Songbird potrebbe essere una rivoluzione.
