Halloween – The Beginning: che combini Rob?
A me il Rob Zombie regista convince. Anzi no. Empatizzo con lui.
Nella Casa dei 1000 Corpi mi sono addirittura trovato a pensare che, se avessero dato a me la possibilità di girare un horror, avrei fatto esattamente come lui: lo avrei riempito di citazioni, situazioni e di riferimenti presi dalle centinaia di B-Movie che tanto ho amato, trasformando la pellicola in un pasticcio barocco, insensato e sovraccarico fino ad esplodere.
Invece il Rob Zombie di The Devil's Reject mi è piaciuto moltissimo, senza "se" e senza "ma". Lo trovo un road movie davvero d'alta scuola (scuola di genere, ovviamente), ipnotico, emozionante e coinvolgente nella caratterizzazione dei personaggi. Credo sarà uno dei pochi film horror moderni a passare davvero alla storia e dei quali i nostri figli si lamenteranno per il remake, a tempo debito! 
Ma il Rob Zombie di Halloween è semplicemente inaccettabile.
Quella di Michael Myers non è una gran storia. Non è complessa e neppure originale. Funziona solo nelle mani di un regista di mestiere e se la natura del mostro rimane completamente avvolta nel mistero, in modo che il film continui nelle teste degli spettatori.
Raccontare l'infanzia difficile di un paffutissimo Michael che un giorno si sveglia e diventa satana incarnato non è stata una buona scelta. Questo Halloween è un film vuoto come l'Uomo Ragno senza problemi familiari.
Per fortuna la signora Zombie che -permettetemi l'ardire- invecchia benissimo, vale sempre il prezzo del biglietto e anche Malcolm McDowell ha qualche sprazzo nella parte che fu di un Donald Pleasence decisamente più convincente.
Rob, per il futuro, rimani nel tuo ruolo e non spingerti oltre le donne licantropo delle SS, se non te la senti. Grazie.

Carlo, sono anni che ho perso la passione per l’horror, ma la tua citazione del “regista di mestiere” … wow, che ricordi! Non trovi però che “di mestiere” suoni un po’ riduttivo?

@Dok: beh, forse si.
Io ho sempre considerato Carpenter un eccellente professionista più che un artista o un genio.
Vuoi per i generi, voi per l’ecletticità del suo multi-ruolo da regista-scrittore-compositore l’ho sempre immaginato come un valente artigiano.
In realtà il termine è da intendere come complimento, e non una critica, neppure alla luce delle sue recenti pellicole.

A questo punto propongo un sondaggione sul film preferito del maestro/artigiano Carpenter! Io voto per Prince of Darkness (il Signore del Male): pochissimi mezzi, cast ‘amatoriale’, smisurato coraggio metafisico e tensione estrema a partire dal tema musicale (che ancora mi provoca la pelle d’oca)! Per me (so di espormi) IL capolavoro di John Carpenter!

@PaolodaTrieste: temo di deluderti con la mia banalità, spero capirai: sto parlando di imprinting… sono cresciuto con l’incubo del cane de “La Cosa” marchiato a fuoco nel cervello e questo ha cancellato qualunque analisi razionale io possa tentare per stabilire il mio film preferito di Carpenter. Però capisco cosa intendi!
Di certo posso dire che (assurdo, sulla carta doveva essere il MIO film preferito) non mi è piaciuto per niente Existenz (ma l’ho visto una volta sola), mentre sono rimasto molto sorpreso (piacevolmente) da Cigarette Burns, il suo episodio di Masters of Horror: magari questo non diciamolo troppo in giro, però…

Non mi deludi affatto! Adoro “La Cosa”! L’atmosfera di isolamento che si fonde a un senso di terrore pronto a scatenarsi in ogni momento, tanto di moda nei film horror attuali a partire da “28 giorni dopo”, e’ stata inventata (o almeno resa arte) da Carpenter!
L’imprinting lo avuto anche io con “Il signore del Male” e “Zombi” (il mio Romero preferito) dopo averli visti, da solo, la sera tardi nei miei giovanili anni ottanta, capisco benissimo cosa intendi!
