Wiimote hacking, visione 3D, EEE-pc: ecco due podcast che non potete perdere!
Seguo The Wiire (podcast sul Nintendo Wii dell'omonimo portale) da quando ancora si chiamava Revolution Report, e seppure col tempo è diventato un poco dispersivo, lo apprezzo ancora molto.
Di recente l'avevo un po' tralasciato, ma per fortuna l'ho ripreso in tempo per lo straordinario episodio #93 in cui è proposta una lunga ed interessantissima intervista a Johnny Chung Lee.
Un nuovo attore di film di arti marziali, vi state chiedendo? Ma su! Sono certo che lo conoscete!
E' quell'ingegnere della Carnegie Mellon inventore fra le altre cose di un sistema steadycam da 14 dollari e protagonista di questo video in cui trasforma un normale televisore in un fantastico "visore tridimensionale" sfruttando il meccanismo dell'head tracking con un economico Wiimote:
Ad esempio, sapevate che il sensore sul Wiimote è una telecamera sensibile agli infrarossi che integra già hardware per il riconoscimento dello spot luminoso (ma invisibile a occhio nudo) e quindi il suo output non è un'immagine ma 4 coppie di coordinate dei 4 punti IR che al massimo è in grado di distinguere?
Un episodio veramente imperdibile e non solo per gli amanti della console Nintendo, dal momento che vengono trattati anche argomenti più generali come la teoria e la pratica per ottenere un effetto stereoscopico attraverso illusioni ottiche.
Per chi come il sottoscritto è affascinato dall'EEE-pc, imperdibile anche l'ultima puntata di The Linux Action Show, che inaugura una nuova numerazione a stagioni, simile a quella di Lugradio.
Questa puntata è completamente dedicata all'EEE-pc che Chris e Bryan posseggono (bianco e nero, pompati a 1 e 2 giga di ram!) e sono certo che vi toglierà TUTTE le curiosità che potete avere su questa riuscitissima macchinetta (compresa "Come gira World of Warcraft?" 
).
Il verdetto finale: macchina spettacolare! Soprattutto se installate una distro completa con compiz fusion, che grazie all'acceleratore Intel integrato gira senza problemi.
Giudizi più alla "action show" comprendono "Killer machine per emulatori e SCUMM VM" - questa la dedico all'amico Alex che già ne aveva intravisto le potenzialità in questo settore - ma anche, letteralmente: "Macchina ideale da usare quando si fa la cacca".
Escono invece dal mio aggregatore i podcast di IGN, assolutamente non all'altezza del portale.
